Abstract

BARCELLOS, Luciana Ferreira  and  SOUZA, Solange Jobim e. Affirmative action policies in education and contributions of socio-historical-cultural psychology. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.1, pp. 206-226. ISSN 2238-152X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22456/2238-152X.90297.

This article reviews the issues that function as guidelines for the relationship between affirmative action policies and higher education in Brazil. The goal is to draw a parallel between macro and micro policies initiatives, highlighting their developments in the Brazilian educational context. The analysis of the reservation policy in Brazilian higher education has two aspects that stand out: A) the relations established between State Policies and Civil Society Actions; B) the controversy around the concepts of identity, race and ethnicity regarding the definition of the criteria for the reservation of student places. As a conclusion, this article presents a brief analysis of the contributions of socio-historical-cultural psychology to this debate.

Keywords : Affirmative actions; public policies; higher education; socio-historical-cultural psychology.
