Resumen

MELLO, Bianca Novaes de. The psychoanalytic notion of symptom in phonoaudiology. Analytica [online]. 2012, vol.1, n.1, pp. 134-157. ISSN 2316-5197.

This article intends to emphasize that the psychoanalytic notion of symptom can bring some contribution to the treatment of symptoms of language and speech. From Lacan’s readings of Freudian notion of the symptom, it is suggested that this concept may be used in phonoaudiology clinic in order to overcome the mere description of symptoms in favor of its interpretation, thus helping to avoid reducing symptoms of language and speech to physiological pathologies or deviations from the rules of the language. Thus, we present a brief history of the different conceptions of symptoms in the field of phonoaudiology. In order to emphasize that the use of the psychoanalytic notion of symptoms in phonoaudiology does not culminate in an infinite interpretation of the meaning of the symptom, it is emphasized that the symptom is defined not only as structured like a language and a bearer of meaning, but also as pulsional satisfaction. Therefore, this concept applied to the treatment of symptoms of speech and language can contribute to embrace the uniqueness of the cases and their subjective positions, without prejudice in the application of phonoaudiology techniques.

Palabras clave : Psychoanalysis; phonoaudiology; symptom; language.
