Abstract

VIDAL, Paulo Eduardo Viana. Oedipus, Freud's dream. Analytica [online]. 2013, vol.2, n.3, pp. 11-39. ISSN 2316-5197.

This paper aims to demonstrate how Lacan`s teaching calls into question the Freudian myths about the father, particularly the myth of the murder of the primal horde father in Totem and Taboo. In his re-reading of Freud, Lacan even says that Oedipus is a Freud's dream. In this paper, we explore these stages of the Lacanian interpretation of Freud's Oedipus, which range from the formalisation of Oedipus as father metaphor, Name-of-the-Father founder, to the multiplication of the names of the father. We conclude that this interpretation has the effect of a relativisation or even father decline in psychoanalysis.

Keywords : Horde father; father metaphor; Name-of-the-Father; quilting point; names of the father.
