Abstract

CUNHA, Flavia Coutinho Campos  and  VORCARO, Angela Maria Resende. My Very Own Hunger Artist: Tales on Anorexia and Melancholy. Analytica [online]. 2015, vol.4, n.6, pp. 28-52. ISSN 2316-5197.

The present work attempts to investigate a Freudian assertion presented in "Draft G" (1893): "a nutritional neurosis which parallels melancholia and anorexia." We will examine all hints left by Freud about melancholia and anorexia. Understanding the narcissistic concept will be paramount to build a bridge between these two disorders. We will investigate facts pertaining to specific causes and identification points in melancholia and build the bridge in mechanisms also found in anorexia. From assumptions and theories taken from such mechanisms, we will highlight three points correlated to melancholia and anorexia. They are: Anesthesia, lack of self-esteem and sadism. To evidence such theories, we will refer to literary works such as "My Ghost" by Nuno Ramos and Franz Kafka, "A Hunger Artist".

Keywords : Anorexia; melancholia; identification; narcism; literature.
