This study aimed to characterize the production about the mourning in psychoanalytic literature as a bibliographic review about articles published in databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Periódicos Eletrônicos em Psicologia (Pepsic), on the period from 2005 to 2016. The selection of the articles was performed by using the keyword "mourning" and the sample comprehended 40 items according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles were categorized in thematic axes: modes of working through the mourning, Mourning and other concepts of psychoanalysis and mourning in groups. As a result of the analysis, we recognized the diversity of perspectives of the articles which discuss the concept of mourning. In modes of working through the mourning, the literature presented experiences of loss of parents, of children, abscission and identity deracination, as well as the discussion of mourning in groups. Furthermore, it was possible to observe the articulation of mourning with the concepts: remembrance, love, attachment, melancholy, depression, sublimation, Final analysis, identification and desire. In spite of the information submitted, it is appropriate to stress the importance of future studies which can invest in new reflections about mourning. The considerations brought by new studies may have implications in psychoanalytic practice, which favors the problematization of the relationship between theory and practice.
