Resumo

Based on the Psychoanalysis and on Laplanche's Theory of Generalized Seduction, this paper aims to broaden the comprehension of the numinous religious phenomenon, proposed by Rudolf Otto. According to Otto, the numinous experience is characterized by the mysterium tremendum et fascinans - the divine element which shows itself enigmatic and, at the same time, distressful and seductive. We assume that, in this experience, there is an exposure to the enigmatic messages as well as an attempt to elaborate them.
