Abstract

CARVALHO, Vitor Orquiza  and  HONDA, Helio. Foundations of free association: a valorization of psychoanalysis' technique. Analytica [online]. 2017, vol.6, n.10, pp. 46-56. ISSN 2316-5197.

This paper seeks to investigate and to appraise the technique of free association in Freudian psychoanalysis. To this end, we sought to bring the conceptual network in which free association is located, this in attempt to demonstrate that its foundations are accurate and a constitutive part of metapsychology. In addition, we discussed the two pillars of psychoanalysis' technique pointed out by Freud in the final session of Chapter VII of La interpretación de los Sueños (1900) and indicated their relationship with the concept of over-determination. At last, we presented two characteristics of this technique that we consider peculiarities in relation to other psychotherapy treatments.

Keywords : Free Association; Technique; Psychoanalysis.
