Abstract

QUEIROZ, Raquel Carvalho de  and  PASSOS, Maria Consuelo. The perverse uses of medicalization. Analytica [online]. 2019, vol.8, n.14, pp. 1-8. ISSN 2316-5197.

People are under the imperative of the demands of health, happiness and consumption anyway. This has had repercussions in the treatments related to the different psychic sufferings. In many contexts, it is observed an abuse of psychoactive drugs that goes against what the subject demands for their quality of life and maturity. To discuss the prescription and possible abuses of psychotropic drugs that, in certain situations, constitute perverse uses. This is a bibliographical research that addresses the topics of medicalization and psychic suffering, based on Foucault. Partial results indicate that the excessive use of psychoactive drugs has become an instrument in the treatment of mental health, excluding other possibilities of take care and transforming the chemical into the holder of mental health. As it is an ongoing research, we observe an excessive prescription of psychoactive drugs, a distortion in the concept of disease for something that needs to be controlled at any cost and pharmaceutical industry impositions on the doctors, generating possible damages in the subject.

Keywords : Abuse; Psychotropic drugs; Foucault.
