The present study aims to address aspects of children with chronic diseases hospitalization and the contributions of Lacanian psychoanalysis. Firstly, a characterization of the medical discourse and the discourse of psychoanalysis was carried out, pointing out its particularities and divergences. Based on literature review, the possibilities of the analyst's work in a hospital, as well as the subjective urgency that affects a hospitalized child, considering his/her imaginary and his/hers family will be discussed. The beginning of treatment, the demand for analysis, and the management of time during hospitalization will be deliberated. It will also be debated the work of the team while dealing with questions such as death and existence, against the real of death that surrounds children treatment in a hospital. Anchored in such points, the possibilities and limits of the analyst's performance in the work with children with chronic diseases in the hospital are presented.
