Abstract

BEZERRA FILHO, Arnaldo Rodrigues. Literature and Psychoanalysis: About the Sadistic Perversion in a Machado de Assis' Tale. Analytica [online]. 2021, vol.10, n.19, pp. 1-15. ISSN 2316-5197.

This work is a psychoanalytic study based on lacanian theory of a short story by Machado de Assis, The Secret Cause. It intended to articulate psychoanalysis with what the narrative's storyteller shows with its sensitive observation of behavior and human subjectivity. It was noted on the story some material which may be a reference to understand the plot, like the wicked and sadistic action of a character with its circumstances. The emphasis was focused on the notions of pure significant and joy, just like the psychodynamics that surrounds the nucleus of a sadistic action. Was noted that the strange and pleasurable reaction of the sadistic protagonist was not confined to the expression of other's pain, but was linked to their subjective structure, marked by incidence of the pure significant.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Literature; Perversion; Sadism.
