Abstract

GONTIJO, Rogéria. Hysteria in Men: A Journey with Freud and Lacan. Analytica [online]. 2022, vol.11, n.20, pp. 1-18. ISSN 2316-5197.

The present article aims to discuss about the implications of the hysteria's incidence among men and the crossings of its subjective position towards the male sexuality, given hysteria's historical association to women and its relationship to feminine. In the quest for demonstrating the specifics of hysteria in men, a theoretical research has been conducted, tracing, in Freud's works and Lacan's first teaching, theoretical articulations and cases of hysterical men that could be able to illustrate such peculiarities. It was observed that both authors corroborate with the thought in which the hysterical symptom is associated with the man's relation with the father as a preponderant factor to think about the subject's position in regards of the castration complex and, consequently, that the symptomatic manifestations would be a response to this great Other in the paternal figure, which would be present in the phantasmatic dynamics of each subject.

Keywords : Hysteria; Man; Psychoanalysis.
