Abstract

BAIRRAO, José Francisco Miguel Henriques. Masks of Conservatism in Psychoanalysis and Possible Antidotes. Clín. & Cult. [online]. 2019, vol.8, n.1, pp. 64-77. ISSN 2317-2509.

Psychoanalytic theory and practice are often subdued and manipulated by forms of conservatism that can focus on the ontological, epistemological, theoretical, methodological, clinical and political spheres. In this way they not only deviate from their foundations, but become of little use for facing contemporary ethical-political challenges. In order to prevent this risk, a double strategy is suggested: the rigorous retaking of the foundations of psychoanalysis and the use of ethnopsychoanalysis. The latter is understood as a complementary discipline to the former, as it can contribute to the fact that the category of alterity is not reduced to a mere concept emptied of ethnic diversity and inattentive to the multiplicity of agencies.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis and Politics; Conservatism; Psychoanalysis-Methodology; Ethnopsychoanalysis; Ethnopsychology.
