Resumen

MARCHANT, Matias. Memory and Childhood: Thoughts on Residential Home Centers. Clín. & Cult. [online]. 2019, vol.8, n.2, pp. 95-107. ISSN 2317-2509.

This article reflects on the characteristics of residential care centres for children (i.e. foster care). It argues that prolonged institutionalisation has negative effects on all areas of a child's development. Congruently with the latter, this article suggest that, from the psychoanalytic point of view, both the subjective history and memory of children within care centers are usually taken away. The former, in turn, is at the root of human rights violations that take place within residential centres. Given the latter arguments, this study posits that children should be understood as subjects of memory. Ultimately, the study sets out to improve practices within residential care centers.

Palabras clave : childhood; memory; alternative care; protection.
