Abstract

MARCIAL, Rogelio. "Always steady on private ground": violences and masculinities in young gang members of Guadalajara. Desidades [online]. 2020, n.28, pp. 151-165. ISSN 2318-9282.

The article reviews the situation of social violence in Guadalajara (Mexico) in recent years, characterized by the so-called “war against organized crime” that the Mexican State has carried out for 14 years, and how all this affects the youth population of the city. In this context, the general conditions of a research and intervention work with violent gangs in the city are presented and it is reflected on how this reality has consolidated the expressions of traditional gender roles in the constitution of violent masculinities and masculinization of the expressions of women in front of their male peers.

Keywords : gang members; violence; masculinities; Guadalajara.
