MARIN, Verónica Haydee Paredes. The forgotten of the health agenda: functional diversity in children and youth in the Guatemala-Mexico border. Desidades [online]. 2021, n.29, pp. 66-81. ISSN 2318-9282.

ABSTRACT The guatemalan mental health approach is a forgotten issue in the public health agenda, with a total budget of less than 0.68% of the total of what is spent on health, besides an ineffective healthcare system and overlapping privatization. Further on, there is an absent and weak program and policy in place, not suitable to assure the Human Rights of people living with disability. We present a panoramic view of the mental Health situation in the country through the analysis of three cases of children at Yalú, Guatemala, a poor comunity at Sibinal, San Marcos in the border of Unión Juárez, Chiapas, México, which, in the face of the State's exclusion and a health system that denies them the exercise of their rights, have created their own strategies. This paper is a part of the partial results from an etnography developed between 2014 and 2019.
