Abstract

COUTINHO, Luciana Gageiro; SAGGESE, Edson Guimarães  and  CABRAL, Ivone Evangelista. Aggravation of childhood and youth vulnerabilities: a sociopolitical analysis of psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Desidades [online]. 2021, n.31, pp. 70-87. ISSN 2318-9282.

Theoretical-reflective analysis on vulnerabilities and psychic suffering in childhood and adolescence, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, anchored in the assumptions of collective health and psychoanalysis. The absence from school and the reduction in face-to-face care at the health units increased the time spent in the family. Paradoxically, there is an increase in the vulnerabilities of children and adolescents, in violence with premature deaths and in the leveis of psychic suffering. Through the notion of helplessness, a possible articulation between social vulnerability and psychic vulnerability of children and adolescents is suggested. The hypotheses involving the disappearance of three boysfrom Belford Roxo, Brazil, and the death of the boy Henry Borel illustrate the lack of protection of the fundamental rights to life and dignity of the child. Cases of adolescents vulnerable to self-inflicted violence that require continuity of outpatient care to ensure some protection and a voice are also reported.

Keywords : child welfare; adolescent; social vulnerability; emotional distress; COVID-19.
