Abstract

This study analyzes the relation dynamic of three families that have children in institutional shelter in the city of Belem, state of Pará. It was used the multiple case study method and crossing the data from semi structured interviews, field diary, and three ecomaps that described the family social support system. The discussion of the results was developed based on the concepts of the Systemic Family Theory, throughout two theme axis: affective relation and the family social support system. The categories of strength, impact and quality of the relations/connection between the families and the groups considered meaningful. It is concluded that the ecomaps aided analyzing the characteristics of the affective-meaningful relations and the family's support system, which are varied. The relations/connections attached to the work and education were strong, the public health system was considered stressful, in addition, it was observed an increase in the frequency in which the family members participated of religious cults after the children were sent to institutional shelter.
