This article aims to discuss the concepts of primary and secondary narcissism following Freud's route since 1910 and at important work from 1914: "On Narcissism - an introduction."After that, the author presents, inside Freudian reference, the correlation between narcissism and melancholia, focusing, mainly, the genesis and symptoms of this disease. The author also makes a course on the concept of narcissism, using the insights of Laplanche and others authors that contributes with clinical propositions. Also, discusses, from the Freudian postulates in "Mourning and Melancholia" (1917 [1915]) about object movement inside the ego, the conflict between ego and superego, as the losses un-idealization ego, peculiar identification to this disease and conflict between life instinct and death instinct. In order to enrich the discussion, the author presents about acedia, as characteristic of the narcissistic neurosis. To conclude the study, the author presents some contributions by authors who write about the clinic of melancholy, seeking to emphasize that the psychoanalytic treatment of melancholia lies in the work so that the ego can be re-invested narcissistically in order to create defenses against sadistic super-ego.
