Abstract

ZUPELARI, Maria Fernanda Zanatta  and  WICK, Maíra Arantes Leite. The future uncertainty and the environmental issue in the contemporaneity. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.3, pp. 447-456. ISSN 2359-0769.

Given the worsening environmental crisis, understood by us in a broader context as the modern Western civilization crisis, Environmental Education (EE) gains notoriety to promote and support the reflection on the uncertainty of the future before the debate on the finiteness of natural resources and the "hyperindividualism" phenomenon in contemporaneity. In this context (and excuse), this theoretical essay aims to establish relations between the environmental issue, the environmental education and the uncertainty of how the future will be. Therefore, we draw some considerations about the time (past, present and future), the risks and the feeling of fear, frequent questions asked in the scenario of Modernity / Post-Modernity debate. We believe the qualitative approach is the one that best expresses our investigative interest and for this, we undertook a literature review, followed by a critical analysis. From undertaken readings we can infer that environmental education, in this context, can be guided to incite the desired and needed changes in order to reverse the situation of environmental crisis, spread through the educational processes its causes and consequences, awakening in people the urgency to rethink the organization and social production. However, we must not and cannot assign to it all liability for the desired changes.

Keywords : environmental education; contemporaneity; uncertainty; crisis.
