TRISKA, Vitor Hugo Couto  e  MANO, Gustavo Caetano de Mattos. Fiction and memory in the contemporary psychoanalytic clinic: a reading from Black Mirror. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.2, pp. 36-44. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v18i2.7111.

This article investigates a specific form of suffering in contemporaneity from a common narrative extracted from two works: the story Funes, the memorioso, by Jorge Luis Borges, and the episode The entire story of you, from the television series Black Mirror. In both cases, a mechanical ideal is recognized which, by reducing history to a perfectly objectifiable past, promotes a downgrading of the fictional dimension that every narrative implies and prevents the production of a singular truth of the subject. We analyze the relation between memory and fiction in Freud and Lacan, recognizing the impossibility of realizing the mechanical ideal of perfect memory and allowing a distinction between past and history. Finally, it is proposed a comparison with questions that interrogate the contemporary psychoanalytic clinic, such as pathologies based on narrative deficits, as well as the need to expand the psychoanalytic diagnosis so that it recognizes new modalities of suffering.
