MACEDO, Orlando Júnior Viana  e  ALBERTO, Maria de Fátima Pereira. Psychology and the rights of children and adolescents in social assistance. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.3, pp. 90-103. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.RS.V18I3.6362.

This article aims to analyze the performance of psychologists in the National Social Assistance Policy (PNAS) to guarantee the rights of children and adolescents. Six managers of the National Social Assistance Policy and eleven professionals of Psychology participated in this study. In order to analyze the managers' interviews, we used content analysis and to analyze data from the interviews with psychology professionals, the Alceste software. Empirical data revealed, on the managers' part, a conception that the role of Psychology is an action in the Basic Social Protection based on technologies derived from an individualistic clinical model; while in the Special Social Protection, its role is a performance based on a psychosocial perspective. From the speeches of the professionals of Psychology, it was noticed that, in their performance, they are faced with several aspects of the National Social Assistance Policy that limit their professional performance, namely: unpreparedness of managers and other technicians; little involvement of some professionals; and disarticulation of the social assistance network. The study participants highlight technical aspects of the work, hiding the political dimension, which may compromise the contribution of Psychology to the realization of the rights of children and adolescents.
