Abstract

STONA, José  and  FERRARI, Andrea Gabriela. Psychoanalytic Transphobias. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.1, pp.1-12. ISSN 2359-0769.  https://doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v20i1.e9778.

This article aims to analyze historically the position of psychoanalysts on the theme of transsexualities. Our interest, in view of the analysis, is to present a reflection on the position of psychoanalysts, asking us whether such a position reinforces, or not, the stigmatization and pathologization of trans experiences. This perspective allowed us to think about the hypothesis that the posture of psychoanalysts could be transphobic even though psychoanalysis has a position of externalization to the normativities of its time. In the conclusions, we indicate that psychoanalytic transphobias produce stereotyped, negative perceptions and discriminatory acts, which delegitimize trans experiences as possible and outside the field of psychopathology. Such an observation reinforces the need to deconstruct psychoanalysis itself so that we can break with oppressive, normative and colonizing discourses through psychoanalysis.

Keywords : transsexualities; transphobias; psychoanalytic theory; clinical devices.
