BARROS JUNIOR, Antônio Carlos de  e  RIBEIRO, Marcelo Afonso. The Narcissistic Wound of the Unemployed and the Construction of Self Images on Social Media. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.2, pp. 1-13. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v20i2.e9272.

In postmodern dynamics, according to a Lacanian reading, the subjects' desire for recognition is a fundamental element in the relationship with the other. They are encouraged to have narcissistic jouissance (enjoyment) and impelled to sell themselves continuously to earn their place in this society of the spectacle. Virtual social networks are one of the postmodern stages where this happens. This study aimed to answer the question of how such dynamics would be, on Facebook and LinkedIn, for unemployed individuals. Given that this condition is socially devalued, representing a narcissistic wound for many subjects, the objective was to apprehend which manifest and unconscious discourses they produce in these social media. The approach adopted was qualitative and the method used was netnography. The main conclusion is that some unemployed subjects use Facebook and LinkedIn to try to plug the narcissistic wound, in their image for the other, that unemployment represents. They do this by building certain images of themselves, selecting what they publish, and eliminating, in general, their suffering.
