Abstract

SANTOS, Jean Jesus  and  CERQUEIRA-SANTOS, Elder. Homophobia and School: A Systematic Literature Review. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.spe1, pp. 1-14. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v20iesp1.e8734.

Homophobia in the school context is a serious problem due to the subtle and blatant ways it occurs and its consequences. This article aims to report a systematic review of Brazilian scientific literature that uses the term homophobia related to the school context and to characterize these productions. The surveys were made using the descriptors "homophobia" and "school" in the databases: Scielo, Pepsic, and Lilacs. The 12 articles that make up the research corpus have quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches, and the data sources are students and teachers of basic education, textbooks and dictionaries, videos, and publications on specific websites. The main results confirm the existence of homophobia in schools, manifesting itself mainly in a subtle way. They indicate that there is a reproduction of information that contributes to the maintenance of homophobia in didactic materials, through injuries or silencing concerning sexual diversity. They also point out the need to reflect on themes related to sexuality in this context and highlight the importance of more significant approaches to these issues in teacher education, as well as in schools, as this contributes to the fight against homophobia in this environment.

Keywords : homophobia; school; sexual diversity; sexuality; gender.
