Abstract

GERALDO, Raoni Pereira da Silva Ramos  and  DIAS, Eliane Aparecida Costa. Can an Analysis Forgo Money?: Payment Considerations in Psychoanalysis. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.1, pp. 1-13. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v21i1.e8819.

This paper aims to discuss the possibility of offering psychoanalytic treatment to people who cannot afford to pay monetarily for an analysis. To this end, texts by Freud, Lacan, and other authors of psychoanalysis were used, who discuss the problem of money and payment in the analysis as a bibliographic reference. In the history of the psychoanalytic movement, the creation of the first institution to offer free assistance to people with low income is resumed the Berlin Psychoanalytic Polyclinic, founded by Max Eitingon, engaged by Freud's ideas of psychoanalysis applied to the social. Focusing on the management of the payment issue in post-Freudian psychoanalytic institutions, the norms established by the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) and the Psychoanalytical Consultation and Treatment Center (CPCT) in Paris are discussed, which was initially conducted by the psychoanalyst Hugo Freda, within the scope of the World Association of Psychoanalysis (AMP), as a way of positioning the psychoanalysis of Lacanian orientation before the movement for the regulation of psychotherapies in France. Besides, in the elaboration of this work, a reflection on the function of payment and its relationship with the symptom and enjoyment towards a psychoanalytic treatment was sought. Finally, it was found that the issue of payment is a fundamental variable to be considered when betting on the effectiveness of psychoanalysis applied to institutions.

Keywords : Freud; Lacan; payment; applied psychoanalysis.
