Abstract

BARBOSA, Renata Mota; DIOGENES, Eliane Vasconcelos; CASTRO, Marta Sorelia Felix de  and  MARTINS, José Clerton de Oliveira. The Art of Hélio Oiticica as an Aesthetic Leisure Experience. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.1, pp. 1-13. ISSN 2359-0769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/23590777.RS.V21I1.E9174.

In contemporary society, immediacy imposes the subject the urgency to occupy his time with some productive activity. Due to the possibility of breaking with this automatism, we are encouraged to investigate the power of art as an experience of aesthetic leisure. Thus, we conducted an exploratory theoretical study combined with ethnographic research in the exhibition Hélio Oiticica - structure, body, color, 2016, from the University of Fortaleza. From the result of the participant observation carried out in the exhibit, we highlight two concepts used by the artist, which were vital to our intent: supra sensory and crelazer. From this, we find that Oiticica's art focuses on the experience of the subject's interaction with the work. In this way, it breaks with the work-public dualism by summoning the subject to become a participant. Thus, we infer that the work only becomes work based on this experience of interaction. The supra sensory consists of the subject's process feeling new perceptions, sensations, from his contact with art and the proposal of crelazer, Oiticica invites the participant to dive into a field of recreation of the work and its existence from the presence of the participant, deconditioned. This condition is the basis for the proposal of the term "aesthetic leisure experience", which emerges from the individual relationship with art, summoning him to his reframing in the experience. We consider that such transformative experiences enhance the subject so that he becomes the creator of his time, of his space, when opening himself to the new, because, by incorporating the authorial role of that experience, he can present himself with a singular moment in the fast pace of contemporaneity. From the investigative path, we are led to believe that the art of Oiticica, as an experience provided by the senses, intends to affect the life experience of the participant, opening the chance to break with the acceleration and new autonomies.
