RESUMO

A partir da discussão de quatro modelos de definição e avaliação da inteligência social derivados de teorias da inteligência são apresentados quatro estudos empíricos. A primeira investigação, de natureza psicométrica, selecionou, dentre os testes para avaliar a inteligência social, o teste do Insight Social de Chapin. Esse estudo preliminar com o teste traduzido demonstrou ser ele intransportável para uma outra cultura. Uma segunda investigação, centrada na abordagem psicogenética, investigou a inteligência social numa situação de jogo de regras. Esse estudo confirmou a interdependência entre os aspectos cognitivos e os sociais do desenvolvimento da inteligência. Na terceira pesquisa foi construído um instrumento no contexto da Teoria das Inteligências Múltiplas de Gardner. Trata-se de uma escala com o objetivo de avaliação de comportamentos indicativos de inteligência interpessoal. Finalmente, a quarta situa-se no contexto das teorias implícitas e procurou, através de uma pesquisa exploratória, identificar as concepções acerca da inteligência social de profissionais atuantes em áreas educacional, social e de saúde (professores, advogados, médicos). Concluiu-se pela pertinência do conceito em questão na atualidade e pela possibilidade de abordá-lo de forma contextualizada, integrando os diferentes modelos teóricos.

ABSTRACT

The present study approaches to the definition and evaluation of social intelligence according to the theories of the Psychology of Intelligence. Results of the researches on the social intelligence stemming from the four presented theoretical approaches are described. First, the Social Insight Test by Chapin (a psychometric approach) was selected among the tests designed to evaluate the social intelligence. The preliminary study, carried out using the test, indicated that it should not be directly translated and applied to another culture. The second study (a psychogenetic approach), observed the interrelationship between the thought structures and social development. Observations confirmed the interdependence between the social and cognitive developmental aspects of the intelligence development. The third research was based on the Multiple Intelligences Theory of Gardner. An instrumental scale was used, built up with the purpose of behavior evaluation concerning interpersonal intelligence. Finally, the implicit theories approach was used to identify concepts of the intelligence and social intelligence of health, educational, and social services professionals. As a general conclusion, we may emphasize the importance to construct the "social intelligence" as well as the possibility to integrate the different models.
