It is with great pleasure that we present this issue of smad magazine, the number 3, which closes the year 2012. The work of editing a journal is not easy as I have mentioned in other editorials and mentioned by many other publishers.

Amid the publication requirements that characterize work in institutions of higher education in the country, in particular those that have graduate programs, it is necessary to be clear as to the quality of research produced. The saying goes that haste is the enemy of perfection and we have seen a huge production of work often lacking in depth and possibility to add knowledge to the areas in which they operate. This is of particular concern in the area of SM.

As a member of the editorial board of this journal I realize that we walked between the goal of consolidate ourselves as a vehicle for dissemination while advancing the quality levels.

I believe that efforts have been made in both directions, but there is still much to do and so we rely on our colleagues who forward the results of their research with the work of the ad hoc consultants, on own editorial board and on readers who will access work and offer rates of impact. It is a complex chain of actions and connections in which all are important actors.

In this issue we have seven studies. Most of them addresses the problem of substance use among college and high school students. USAGE PROFILE OF LICIT AND ILLICIT DRUGS BY COLLEGE STUDENTS OF A PRIVATE INSTITUTION, of the authors Rizângela Lyne Mendes de Freitas, Danelle da Silva Nascimento, Rivelilson Mendes de Freitas, Gláucio Barros Saldanha, Roberta Mayara de Moura Rocha and Pauline Sousa dos Santos; DEPRESSION AND CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IN PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN COATZACOALCOS, VERACRUZ, of the authors Brenda Alicia Hernández Cortaza, Leticia Cortaza Ramírez and Moacyr Lobo da Costa Junior, and USE OF PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCES BY STUDENTS OF ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW, by the authors Flávia Batista Portugal and Marluce Miguel de Siqueira.

Focusing on the drug user, the study THE VISION OF ADOLESCENTS USERS AND NONUSERS OF MARIJUANA ON THEIR BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS, of the authors Margareth da Silva Oliveira, Maísa dos Santos Rigoni, Nathália Susin, Marcela Bortolini, Camila Guimarães Dornelles and Luciana Bohrer Zanetello discusses the evaluation of what the adolescents attended in a department of mental health care, users and nonusers of marijuana, make about their behavior problems.

The study WIVES OF ALCOHOLICS: FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS AND MENTAL HEALTH, of the authors Joseane de Souza, Ana Maria Pimenta Carvalho, Maycoln Lêoni Martins Teodoro discusses the impact of living with an alcohol user companion.

The study COPING STRATEGIES TO WORK LOADS OF NURSES OF EMERGENCY UNIT/PR, of the authors Júlia Trevisan Martins, Maria Cristina Cescatto Bobroff, Renata Perfeito Ribeiro, Vanessa Monique Luiz Costa, Alexandrina Aparecida Maciel Cardelli eMara Lúcia Garanhani addresses the mental health of professional nurses working in emergency care units.

Another article, CONCEPTS AND PREJUDICE ON MENTAL DISORDERS, of the authors Maria Rosilene Cândido Moreira, Edina Araújo Rodrigues Oliveira, Claudete Ferreira de Souza Monteiro, José Ronildo da Costa, Geórgia Salanne Rodrigues Benício, Flora Lia Leal da Costa discusses the concepts of mental disorders of a group of workers in an institution of higher education. It is an important discussion which is usually brought in the context of a wider society and here addresses professionals of training institutions in human resources to work in mental health.

Good reading!
