The Brazilian Journal of Cognitive Therapies has documented the growth of cognitive therapies in Brazil, which is revealed, in part, through important scientific events that took place in our country, where renowned professionals have shared their experiences with Brazilian colleagues.

Among these meetings, the most recent event, Forum - Cognitive Therapy for Clinical Challenges, happened in Porto Alegre between the 6th and 7th of October 2006, when Dr. Judith Beck, president of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research (Philadelphia), held public supervisions of clinical cases. This event, which gathered over 500 professionals and students from Brazil and several other South American countries, was made possible due to the efforts of Melanie Ogliare Pereira, and was promoted by institutions such as the Brazilian Society of Cognitive Therapies (SBTC) and the Brain, Behavior and Cognition Clinic. Several professionals from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela also participated, presenting or supervising clinical cases considered difficult. Apart from promoting open discussion and fruitful exchanges regarding recent developments in research and clinical intervention, the Forum gave us the opportunity to make an interview with Dr. Judith Beck, presented in this edition.

The growth of cognitive therapies in Brazil can also be identified through the publications regarding this subject. For the scientific community the knowledge acquired through research data, clinical intervention or theoretical revision is only considered complete after being published. Therefore, scientific meetings offer space to exchange experiences, but the publication of books and journals reflects, in a more consistent fashion, the production of Brazilian professionals that work with cognitive therapies.

The book entitled Psychology of Health – Research and Practice, edited by professionals that work with a cognitive-behavioral approach, shows the vast production on this subject in Brazil, and is presented as a book review in this issue.

The Brazilian Journal of Cognitive Therapies has become an important vehicle for divulging articles in the areas of research, clinical intervention and theoretical revision, national and foreign, based on cognitive theories and therapies. The national and international scientific meetings held in Brazil and in other countries have facilitated an interesting exchange between professionals from different regions of the world. The articles presented in this issue, four written by Brazilian authors and four by foreign professionals, are the result of these experiences.

In April 2007 the VI Congress of the Brazilian Society of Cognitive Therapies (SBTC) will be held in the city of Gramado in order to celebrate SBTC´s ten-year anniversary. This will be another opportunity to gather professionals from various countries that will be presenting their most recent experiences. Consequently, more publications will appear, contributing to document the history of cognitive therapies in Brazil.
