Alopecia Areta is a disease that causes hair loss on one or multiple body parts. Psychological factors are related with its onset, duration and treatment. This research verified the frequency of depression and anxiety, the perception of the disease and the quality of life impacts on these patients. Participants: 59 men and women, aging between 20 and 65 years. Methodology: quantitative transversal, descriptive and qualitative. Instruments: sociodemographic questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADs), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQ-1) and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (Brief IPQ). Results: depression symptoms on 35,6% of the population and anxiety symptoms on 47,5%. Low quality of life prejudice (mean of 6,6) and negative perception of illness (mean of 43,6). Significant correlations for anxiety, depression, quality of life and illness perception levels were found, indicating relationship between alopecia areata and emotional aspects.
