A study carried out in an alcoholic care program in a city in Brazil found that the mean age for starting to consume alcohol was 15.91, SD 5.43, some 67.9% also used marihuana, 67.1% cocaine and 58.1% tobacco. Around 63.7% suffered from mental illness, the most commonly consumed drink was cachaça (alcoholic drink made from sugar cane and with alcohol content between 38% and 51%) (8).
