INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS

Editorial Line

The Revista de Psicologia da IMED, edited and published electronically by the IMED/FaculdadeMeridional's Psychology Department, has a semiannual periodicity and its mission is the dissemination of scientific production in psychology, of national and foreign origin. The journal aims, with the studies published in it, to divulge the most recent findings in psychological research in its several areas; Thus, the papersmust not be published elsewhere or must not be submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Papers will be accepted in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Types of articles accepted:

- Non-systematic review of literature: also called narrative or integrative reviews, are articles in which a particular subject is approached, preferably by authors with relevant knowledge and related production, aiming to present a critical review of the material already published. They do not have the method section, since they do not constitute empirical research. Maximum 25 pages.

- Systematic review of literature or meta-analysis: systematic reviews and meta-analysis can be considered research methods and their results are considered empirical. Systematic review and meta-analysis articles have the same order of contents as empirical articles (i.e., Introduction - with specification of the study goal at its aim - Method, Results, Discussion, and Final Considerations). It is strongly suggested that the systematic reviews and meta-analysis submitted to the journal are in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA, see http://www.prisma-statement.org). Maximum 25 pages.

- Empirical/Original article: articles from empirical research, in which there was data collection, whether or not with the participation of human beings. Empirical articles from human studies must have been approved by a Research Ethics Committee affiliated with CONEP (in Brazil) or corresponding authorities or agencies in other countries. Authors should submit, at the time of submission, a copy of the approval letter of the responsible Ethics Committee, as well as mention such approval in the article's Method section (specifically in the Procedures subsection). Maximum 25 pages.

- Experience report: article describing intervention strategies focused on detailing the procedures performed, results obtained and implications for professional practice. Maximum 20 pages.

- Review: article in which a previously published bibliographic production (e.g., books) is presented and evaluated. Maximum 10 pages.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted to the Journal of Psychology of IMED were evaluated based on two components. Based on this opinion, we will send your work with the appropriate recommendations.

Author Guidelines

Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

Articles submitted to Revista de Psicologia da IMED should follow the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual - Sixth Edition. For a review of these standards, careful consultation of the Manual is suggested.

Articles should be written in Word format, A4 page size, margins should be 2.5 cm on all sides. The font should be Times New Roman, size point 12. Use double spacing and left alignment, including in the list of references.

The file to be submitted must be organized in the following order, all pages must be numbered (upper right corner):

- Personalized cover sheet without identification:

1) full title (maximum of 12 words) in Portuguese, English and Spanish;
2) section to which the article belongs (see section policies).
3) Full author names typed exactly as they should appear in print, main affiliation(s) (such as institution and department) and email (e.g. Author Name Author Last Name, Author Institution, Author Department, Author@Email)
4) The corresponding author should be identified with a full mailing address and an email address provided.

- Abstract and its translations: The abstract should be between 150 and 200 words. Next, three to five keywords, preferably included in the DeCs (http://decs.bvs.br/I/homepagei.htm), should be indicated. Abstracts and keywords should be presented in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

- Text: The article itself should be written on a new page, in a logical and easy-to-understand order, specified by titles and subheadings according to the standards of APA -Sixth Edition. Non-systematic literature review articles are not usually pre-defined. The organization of these articles can be based on theoretical models, points of view, relevance of the literature or chronological evolution of the cited literature. They should, however, at the end present a Discussion section and / or Final Considerations. Empirical articles, systematic reviews of literature and meta-analysis usually have the following order: Introduction, Method (Participants, Instruments, and Procedures, including ethics statements, data collection and data analysis), Results, Discussion and Final Considerations. Figures and tables, where relevant, should be placed at the end of the text, after the list of references, each on a new page. The places of insertion of figures and tables should be indicated in the text as follows: *** Insert Table (or Figure) 1 (or 2, or 3, etc.) here ***. The use of footnotes is strongly discouraged. Authors' citations and the list of references must be strictly in accordance with the APA Publication Manual, Sixth Edition. It is advised that the names of the authors cited should be presented in parentheses rather than in the body of the text, for a more fluid reading. The citation of the names of authors in the body of the text should be done only when authors want to highlight these authors because of their relevance to the topic addressed in the article. In addition, at least 40% of the references used in the article must have been published within the last five years.

Articles regarding qualitative empirical studies should follow Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ): a 32-item checklist for interviews and focus groups, available at https://academic.oup.com/intqhc/article/19/6/349/1791966/Consolidated-criteria-for-reporting-qualitative

- Tables: Submit tables as editable text and not as images, preferable created using Microsoft Word processor tools. All tables must be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Tables should complement the text, make sure that the data presented in the table do not duplicate information contained elsewhere in the paper. Titles in tables should be short but self-explanatory. Legends should be concise but comprehensive. Moreover, explain all nonstandard abbreviations in legends, and use symbols to explain information if needed. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified.

- Figures: Figures should be submitted as digital images, preferably as .tif or .jpeg format. All Figures must be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Figures should be made as self-explanatory as possible. Each illustration must have a caption. The caption should provide a brief title and a brief description of the illustration. Furthermore, the caption should explain each symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters used in the illustration. Important, figure title and description should be in the caption, not on the illustrations themselves. Legends for figures should be on a separate page, with the number corresponding to the illustrations.

- Authorship and Acknowledgments: After main text, authors should provide Authorship and Acknowledgments. Corresponding author, where applicable, should be able to: (a) Identify which co-authors are responsible for specific parts of the work (e.g. method design, data collection, statistical analysis, writing, proofreading, etc); (b) Recognize persons or institutions that contributed for the article, but does not belongs to co-authors. Persons or institutions must provide permission to be cited; (c) Mention any financial or support received to conduct the study (e.g. research grant, scholarship, etc).

Reference Guidelines

The references list must be written up in the APA style. You can use the original manual (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition) or the translated version into Portuguese (Manual de Publicação da APA, Sexta Edição).

As a complementary tool, it is suggested that the authors visit the APA Style Blog, maintained by the authors of the original manual. You can solve specific questions and access instructional material about the APA style. One should look at the four main elements of the reference, which are separated by a point: author, date, title, source - see Lee (2011). If the four information are available in the bibliographic source, follow the template for each type of work (article, book, chapter, etc.). If any information is missing, see Lee (2012) for how to proceed.

The Revista de Psicologia da IMED adopts two adaptations in relation to the original manual: 1) it is not necessary to translate titles into English when non-English materials are used and 2) the section "Institutional or legal materials" presents adaptations to the Brazilian context, due to its difference in relation to materials of the same type in English. Remember not to justify the list and use indentation of 1.27 cm (0.5 in) in each reference.

Below, we have selected some examples of the most commonly used types of bibliographic sources.
