Abstract An analysand arrives to the first session curatingwords to describe his suffering and demonstrating in his very own way of speaking, silencing and moving, the linguistic structure that seems to afflict him. How does the analyst listen and choose to intervene? At every moment, possibilities of intervention arise, yet the analyst chooses to remain silent at one juncture and to speak or act at another. What are the principles that guide such acts? This question is at the core of Lacan’sinquiry throughout his oeuvre. In this article, I reflect on the analyst’s knowledge with regard to technique and style in the conduct of an analysis. I argue that a successful analysis, by which I mean, a process that subverts compulsion repetition in order to allow the analysand’s encountering a “know-how-to-do” with jouissance, depends on two sources of knowledge: technique and style. Which would be more vital for a successful analysis: technique or style? My proposal is that an analysis can exist without technique but never without style. I will develop the notion of the analyst’s style as follows:style is an effect of the analyst’s desire, encountered at the end of analysis, that punctures the texture of the analysand’s speech to reveal the insistent letter; it involvesa necessarysavoir, a “know-how,” which does not permit the analyst’s jouissance into the analysis; and style is an informed lalangue, the active core of the real ways in which an analyst intervenes, which involves an orientation towards the letter.
Abstract The article establishes a confrontation between the conceptions introduced by Guy Debord about the Society of the Spectacle in the 1960s and the latest formulations of Jacques Lacan about the register of the imaginary. Emphasizing that such conceptions present points of convergence and divergence, the article intends to indicate in the omnipresence of social networks in the contemporary world the search for meaning that the imaginary produces to face the devastating non-sense of the real that plagues everyday life. On the schize between the eye and the gaze in the Orphans of Eldorado http://pepsic.bvsalud.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-73952025000100035&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Resumo A partir da interlocução entre psicanálise e literatura, objetivamos analisar a esquize entre o olho e o olhar, colocada por Lacan no Seminário 11, abordando questões clínicas centrais como o olhar, a angústia, objeto a.
Abstract Based on the dialogue between psychoanalysis and literature, we aim to analyze the schize between the eye and the gaze, as presented by Lacan in Seminar 11, approaching central clinical issues such as the gaze, anguish and object a. For this purpose, we examine the novel Orphans of Eldorado (2008), by the Amazonian writer Milton Hatoum, where we can identify elements of this important discussion pointed out by Lacan. The trace for an identification http://pepsic.bvsalud.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-73952025000100043&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Resumo A proposta deste artigo é trabalhar o conceito do traço unário, desenvolvido por Lacan no Seminário, Livro 9: A identificação.
Abstract The purpose of this article is to explore the concept of the unary trait, developed by Lacan in Seminar, Book 9: Identification. To do so, we follow a path similar to the one Lacan proposes: we revisit Freud’s notion of identification developed in 1921/2011. Then, we board the 10h15 Express, toward the traces left on Robinson Crusoe’s island. From these tracks, mathematical logic comes into play, creating new meanings for the constitution of the unary trait and thus expanding our discussion. The algorithmic subject: work digitalization, jouissance, and (de-)subjectivation http://pepsic.bvsalud.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-73952025000100051&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Resumo A digitalização do trabalho redefine o laço social e impacta a constituição subjetiva.
Abstract The digitalization of work redefines social bonds and impacts subjective constitution. This article analyzes this scenario through the perspective of the capitalist discourse, which displaces desire by privileging the logic of jouissance surplus and performance maximization. It examines the (de-)subjectivation induced by algorithmic monitoring and automation. In response to this discursive economy, psychoanalysis highlights the act and lack as possible operators of displacement and subjective reconfiguration in the context of digital mental health.
Abstract This article takes as its starting point Freud’s metaphor of the Zuider Zee, which he associates with the aphorism Wo Es war, soll Ich werden, addressing the transition from drive to cultural creation in relation to the aim of an analysis. The text demonstrates how Lacan’s interpretations of this maxim demarcate two moments in his teaching: the conceptualization of an ethics of desire in the early 1960s and the formulation of a clinic concerned with the notion of jouissance in the early 1970s. Considering these shifts, the article highlights how such rereadings point to a new perspective on the end of analysis, inviting us to take a further step regarding the clinical handling of jouissance. Falling ill while adolescenting. Seriam, a princípio, novas formas sintomáticas?
Abstract Here’s a challenge - in 2019, something experienced in the clinic with adolescents intrigued me at first: new symptomatic forms? The pandemic has triggered an avalanche of subjective solutions linked to new knowledge, “something is out of order”. Faced with this concern, the purpose of this article will be to try to support another clinical practice in the management of transference with adolescents.
Abstract This article analyzes how the Fifty Shades of Gray and The CEO Job trilogies gives new meaning to female masochism, subverting it into a conscious strategy of empowerment and autonomy. Using the concepts of masochistic masquerade and neiko-eroticism, we investigate how the protagonists perform submission strategically, manipulating desire and reconfiguring the power dynamics in their relationships. By repositioning female pleasure at the center of interactions, these narratives challenge expectations of vulnerability and passivity attributed to women, creating a space for the assertion of their autonomy and pleasure. What to harvest from an act? The analyst in his act, the unforeseen anguish of the Real http://pepsic.bvsalud.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-73952025000100085&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Resumo Só depois do ato, o psicanalista poderá se interrogar sobre o quê o fez agir.
Abstract Only after the act can the psychoanalyst question what led them to act. This article is an attempt to work on the construction and elaboration of this time that follows the act, which is inevitably accompanied by anguish. Lacan considers the praxis of psychoanalysis as an experience that touches and modifies the real, a treatment of the symbolic upon the real. The analytic act aims to navigate around this real, and it is also where the analyst positions themselves. Therefore, this article seeks to investigate the relationship between the analyst and anguish concerning the analytic act. The time that isn´t: an essay on the timeless unconscious http://pepsic.bvsalud.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-73952025000100093&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Resumo Este artigo investiga o conceito freudiano de atemporalidade do inconsciente, analisando suas implicações epistemológicas e clínicas.
Abstract This article investigates the Freudian concept of the timelessness of the unconscious, analyzing its epistemological and clinical implications. Based on fundamental texts by Freud-Letter 52 (1896), Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901), Culture and Its Discontents (1930), Lecture 31 (1933), Finite and Infinite Analysis (1937), and Moses and Monotheism (1939)-, we seek to clarify how the notion of timelessness operates in relation to psychic survivals and fixation points. The central problem discussed here is the paradox presented by Freud: how can something essentially timeless (the unconscious) undergo periodic reorganizations while preserving, side by side, invariant elements and elements that change and transform over time? Our main hypothesis is that timelessness does not exclude time, but manifests itself precisely through the points of drive fixation, requiring constant rereading. The aim of this article is to examine the consequences of this Freudian thesis for contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice.
Abstract This article discusses colonialism in the constitution of the subjectivities of black people, focusing on the notion of humanity and its impact on social and psychic realities. It is based on Frantz Fanon’s concept of race in the construction of black subjectivity and its comparison with Freud’s Evil in Culture. The dynamic of the mirror stage raises questions about the construction of subjectivities based on the other, which racializes and stereotypes bodies, in other words, empties them of humanity. The contemporary clinic receives demands that claim the place from the humanity in the plurality of subjects, and how psychoanalysis has or hasn’t done this listening.
