RIBEIRO, Letícia Almança; MEA, Cristina Pilla Della  e  HOHENDORFF, Jean Von. BUILDING THE THERAPEUTIC RELATIONSHIP IN CHILDREN’S COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL APPROACH: A QUALITATIVE STUDY. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2025, vol.37, e007.  Epub 02-Maio-2025. ISSN 0103-5665.  https://doi.org/10.33208/pc1980-5438v037e007.

The therapeutic relationship encompasses any exchange shared between the patient and the therapist in the psychotherapy process, and the literature considers it one of the main points for its effectiveness. This study aimed to understand the strategies of cognitive-behavioral therapists in the construction of the therapeutic relationship in the children’s clinic. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted through semi-structured online interviews with seven psychologists working with children, specialists in cognitive behavioral therapy. The data collected were subjected to Bardin’s qualitative content analysis. The main results indicated the importance of a good therapeutic relationship with the children and that it be built from the beginning of the treatment, through playful materials such as games, children’s books and support materials specific for cognitive-behavioral therapy. The parents’ relationship with the therapist also bears directly on the establishment of the bond with the child. It is concluded that the consolidation of a good therapeutic relationship is essential in the children’s clinic, and is closely linked to the results and adherence to treatment.
