MOITA, Dímitre Sampaio  e  AQUINO, Cássio Adriano Braz de. The process of producing work-related mental exhaustion in information technology: the case of Maria Isabel. Cad. psicol. soc. trab. [online]. 2024, vol.27, e-209882.  Epub 04-Out-2024. ISSN 1516-3717.  https://doi.org/10.11606/issn.1981-0490.cpst.2024.209882.

The investigations in Brazil about the working and living conditions of workers in information technology (IT) go back to the 1980’s, when a harsh reality was observed, crossed by the abandonment of the profession, stress and family conflicts. Nowadays, the experience of people in the sector shows the intensification of work rhythms, the request for unrestricted availability for the activity, and the volatility of training and work tools. In view of this, this case study aims to contribute to the understanding of the production process of mental exhaustion related to work in IT, analyzing, according to the proposition of the field of Work-Related Mental Health, the levels of determination of this process - the workplace, the company, and the regional/national context - in the work life story of Maria Isabel, a business analyst who reports her process of getting sick. It is possible to see how these levels interact in the sense of aggravating the mental exhaustion of the worker and how the examination of spatial-temporal relations contributes to the explicitness of the mediation operated by work in the experience of individuals, including in the process of health/illness.
