Considered a public health problem, mental illness causes significant harm to individuals’ lives. Psychiatric hospitalization is a widely used resource in cases of more severe mental disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS), Emotional Dysregulation (ED) and Suicidal Ideation (SI) in psychiatric hospitalized patients. The sample consisted of 55 patients hospitalized in a private psychiatric clinic located in Rio Grande do Sul. A sociodemographic questionnaire, Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form, Emotional Dysregulation Scale - Adult and Beck Suicide Scale were used. For data analysis, descriptive analyses, Mann-Whitney U tests, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation were used. As results, the participants did not score EMS, presented moderate ED and the BSI means indicated the presence of SI. The ED correlated positively and significantly with EMS and SI, with the pessimism factor being the most correlated with the constructs. The EMS of abandonment/instability and enmeshment/underdeveloped self and pessimism and paralysis correlated positively and significantly with SI. It is concluded that the evaluation of EMS, ED and SI is of great importance for the understanding and treatment of mental disorders in psychiatric patients.
