SIMOES, Cristiane Helena Dias; FERREIRA-TEIXEIRA, Marcela Casacio e AIELLO-VAISBERG, Tania Maria José. Mental health workers' collective imagining about aging. Bol. psicol [online]. 2014, vol.64, n.140, pp.65-77. ISSN 0006-5943.
The purpose of this article was to investigate the collective imaginary of mental health workers about aging based on a psychoanalytic approach. These workers were interviewed about associations they would make about people's photographs. The material obtained was considered in the light of psychoanalysis referential which allowed the interpretative production of two affective-emotional domains of sense. The first one "Suffering and loneliness", was very expressive, was organized upon the belief that this period is characterized mainly by suffering. The second field, named "age is not important", is expressed in a more tenuous way, timidly conveying the belief that it is possible to be elderly and live pleasantly. This general framework points, by one side, to the valuing of youth, but it also reveals significant changes towards the possibilities of old age
