Abstract

FOCHESATTO, Waleska Pessato Farenzena. Gael and the monster in the closet Psychoanalytic listening and literature in difficult times. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2023, n.60, pp.83-90.  Epub Feb 07, 2025. ISSN 0100-3437.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-3482.n60a09.

This essay is about the construction of the children’s book Gael and the closet monster, written by me, based on psychoanalytic listening during the period of the coronavirus pandemic. Fear was among the most mentioned affects at the clinic and a based on it I created a story whose main protagonist is the dialogue between the boy Gael and the monster that lives in his closet. As Gael starts talking to the monster about his fears, it gradually decreases in size. Psychoanalysis shows us. As Hanna Arendt said, “all pain can be borne if a story can be told about it”.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Children’s literature; Pandemic.
