The objective of this article is to draw a parallel between Jean-Claude Ameisen’s book La Sculpture du vivant: le suicide cellulaire ou la mort créatrice [e sculpture of the living: cellular suicide or creative death] and some Freudian concepts such as such as the death drive and phylogenetic inheritance. We sought to present the similarities between aspects of current biology and Freudian concepts from over 100 years ago.
