Abstract

BAZILIO, Luiz Cavalieri. The algorithms of resentment: modulation of affects in contemporary times. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2024, n.61, pp.81-94.  Epub June 09, 2025. ISSN 0100-3437.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-3482.n61a07.

Based on the concept of Affect Modulation, this text analyzes the role of social media in the construction of subjectivity, with special focus on the aggravation of bitterness, the recurrence of pain resulting from alleged injustice and the promotion of resentment as a strategy to guide social and political life. The text describes below how the feeling of resentment was successfully used in modulating affects within a political scope - the Brexit referendum campaign. At last, from the psychoanalytical perspective, it points out therapeutical approaches to treating resentful patients.

Keywords : Resentment; Affections; Subjectivities; Social networks.
