Abstract

GAGNEBIN, Jeanne Marie. Documents of culture: documents of barbarism. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2008, vol.31, n.46, pp.80-82. ISSN 0101-3106.

Based on the theses "On the concept of history" by Walter Benjamin, the author seeks to describe a critical and lively relationship with culture, as opposed to a reifying and fetishist conception of "cultural assets" as property or possession. The author emphasizes the importance of a transmission ethics that does not consider the works of the past as immutable substances but rather as reserves of the senses, often concealed and forgotten, and as possibilities of resistance and transformation that must be reconciled in the present time.

Keywords : Culture; Memory; Transmission; Walter Benjamin.
