Abstract

TRABUCCO, Luca. D’Annunzio and the war. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2023, vol.45, n.75, pp.88-96.  Epub Aug 02, 2024. ISSN 0101-3106.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0101-3106.v45n75.09.

To understand the genesis of his particular personality, the author uses a vision that refers to transgenerational transmission, which leads to a change in little Gabriele’s identity. Thus, their “passions” are marked by exasperation and falsehood, expressions of a false self. The sadomasochistic pleasure that marks the parental relationship in his memory leads him to an exaltation of war, which also had some weight in bringing Italy into the collective madness of the First World War.

Keywords : D’Annunzio; false self; transgenerationality; perversion; negative realms.
