This paper is an attempt to elaborate some questions brought upon after the author’s participation on the XII International Forum of Psychoanalysis organized by the Círculo Psicanalítico de Minas Gerais in August 2004 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This text discusses the difficulties of finding a commonsense amongst the many psychoanalytical schools of thoughts, concerning both the theoretical and clinic aspects of perversion. After presenting a summary of Freud’s controversial positions on perver-sion, the author works with the hypothesis according to which the way a given psychoanalytical school deals with perversion is in close relationship with the way this same school conceptualizes the “individual” (subject). Finally, the author discusses the consequences of such differences in Psychoanalysis as a whole.
