Abstract

MARANHAO, Bernardo  and  MELLO, Carlos Antônio Andrade. GENDER, RACE AND VICTIMIZATION: INTERVIEW WITH ÉLISABETH ROUDINESCO. Reverso [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.83, pp.23-28.  Epub Oct 28, 2024. ISSN 0102-7395.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0102-7395.v44n83.02.

Élisabeth Roudinesco, a disciple of Deleuze and an historian of psychoanalysis whose works on Sigmund Freud have gone around the world, analyzes in her newest essay, Soi-même comme un roi [Self as a king] (Seuil), the “identitary drifts” that crystalize the political left wing, and have her worried. Gender theories, decolonialism, cancellation culture, woke culture… A major figure of the moral left wing, Élisabeth Roudinesco shows, in an essay that can be caustic, how the identities have eclipsed the emancipatory engagements of previous times, by means of a folding upon oneself that is “destructive for society as a whole”.

Keywords : Identity; Race; Gender; Decolonialsm; Victimization; Emancipation; Democracy.
