CECCARELLI, Paulo Roberto. IS ANATOMY FATE OR IS FATE IS WHAT MEN DO WITH ANATOMY?. Reverso [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.84, pp.25-34. Epub Nov 22, 2024. ISSN 0102-7395. https://doi.org/10.5935/0102-7395.v44n84.03.
The author seeks to problematize Freud’s maxim - anatomy is destiny - contrasting it with Stoller, who maintains that destiny is what men do with anatomy. The debate focused on the question to what extent anatomy is a natural anatomical datum or whether, like gender, it is a construction linked to a discourse of power that determines the place of women and men in the social world. To support the debate, brief considerations were made about the history of the body, and how it was perceived over the centuries, as well as anatomical readings. Finally, it was considered that the subject’s sex, gender and anatomy respond to the place they occupy in the desire that whoever welcomed the child when he arrived in the world, giving him a psychic cradle.
