The present chapter aims to delineate the main elements of the clinical rationality that Freud elaborated during the 1890s to later theorize on anxiety according to psychoanalysis in the twentieth century. The chapter will demonstrate that the dominance of the affective life over the psychic representations and the notion of defense are not only indispensable elements to the Freudian approach on anxiety but they were also clearly rehabilitated by Freud in the psychoanalytic theory on anxiety.
