In this essay, we seek to analyze a recurring theme in the works of René Magritte: the pipe, exploring the complexity of representation and the paradox between image and reality. Drawing on Michel Foucault’s critique, which sees the work as a calligram that deconstructs the relationship between word and image, we also rely on philosophers like Heidegger and Danto to discuss illusion and truth in art, relating them to Lacanian psychoanalysis, concluding that in art, representation can reveal new perspectives on subjectivity.
