The article establishes a confrontation between the conceptions introduced by Guy Debord about the Society of the Spectacle in the 1960s and the latest formulations of Jacques Lacan about the register of the imaginary. Emphasizing that such conceptions present points of convergence and divergence, the article intends to indicate in the omnipresence of social networks in the contemporary world the search for meaning that the imaginary produces to face the devastating non-sense of the real that plagues everyday life.
