Abstract

ARAUJO, Amanda Brasil de; PENA, Breno Ferreira  and  NICOLAU, Roseane Freitas. The trace for an identification. Reverso [online]. 2025, vol.47, n.89, pp.43-49.  Epub Oct 24, 2025. ISSN 0102-7395.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0102-7395.v47n89.05.

The purpose of this article is to explore the concept of the unary trait, developed by Lacan in Seminar, Book 9: Identification. To do so, we follow a path similar to the one Lacan proposes: we revisit Freud’s notion of identification developed in 1921/2011. Then, we board the 10h15 Express, toward the traces left on Robinson Crusoe’s island. From these tracks, mathematical logic comes into play, creating new meanings for the constitution of the unary trait and thus expanding our discussion.

Keywords : identification; single trait; unary trait; signifier; subject..
