We take up Anna O. again to find a Bertha Pappenheim. If Freud and Lacan came to say that she was the one who discovered psychoanalysis, we introduce the hypothesis that the treatment she underwent caused an iatrogenic drug addiction. Despite the efforts that have already been made to establish the version of her story that, at the same time, take into account Breuer’s account, include Jones’ observations, and feed on the contributions of so many authors who have already devoted themselves to the case, this question is hardly discussed in the context of both the talking cure and the writing cure – which we associate with sublimation. A possible sublimation both as an investment of the libido in an activity whose target is not exactly sexual (Freud), and as the sublime-act of Bertha, who seeks to impart dignity to women, a possible interpretation regarding Lacan’s conceptualization: to elevate the object to the dignity of the Thing. Equivocacy that shows the sublime-act for which Bertha still has international recognition today.
